How to Wash a North Face Extreme Jacket
The North Face manufactures lines of all-weather gear for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, climbing and mountaineering. The company's "Extreme Jackets" line consisted of a DWR (Durable Water Repellent)-treated nylon shell matted over a Gore-Tex inner lining. Both the Gore-Tex and the DWR-nylon provide waterproof protection while also allowing breathability. Over time, the DWR loses its waterproofing properties; however, the North Face website reports that owners of these jackets available now can restore the DWR by washing the garment properly.
Instructions
1. Wipe away any large clumps of dirt or stains (such as oil stains) on your Extreme Jacket with a cloth and warm water. Apply pre-wash stain treatments to any soiled areas.
2. Close all zippers, fasten all Velcro surfaces and affix all snaps in your jacket before putting it in the washing machine.
3. Add powdered detergent to your washing machine. Follow the detergent's instructions for the amount to use.
4. Set your washing machine to the warm setting and turn it on. Add your Extreme Jacket when water covers the detergent. You may add other clothes if you like.
5. Set your washing machine to the rinse cycle of the warm setting and run just the rinse portion of the cycle again, after the first wash has completed.
6. Dry your Extreme Jacket by running it through the medium heat cycle of your dryer.
7. Iron the outside of the jacket lightly with an iron set on the steam setting. Do not let the iron rest on the jacket at any point during the ironing, as it could damage the nylon material.- shop available now
